Internship
What is a Law Internship & Why Is It Important for Law Students?
A Law Internship is a structured, practical training experience where law students work with advocates, law firms, courts, corporate legal departments, NGOs, tribunals, or government bodies to gain real-world exposure to the legal profession.
Unlike classroom learning, internships allow students to apply legal theory to live matters—from drafting and legal research to client interaction and court procedures. It is an essential bridge between academic knowledge and professional practice.
Why Law Internships Matter
- Practical Exposure: Understand how laws operate in real cases, offices, and courtrooms.
- Skill Development: Build core skills such as drafting, research, advocacy, communication, and professional ethics.
- Career Clarity: Explore different fields—litigation, corporate law, judiciary, policy, or social justice—to make informed career choices.
- Professional Confidence: Gain workplace discipline, responsibility, and confidence through hands-on experience.
- Employability Advantage: Internships strengthen resumes and prepare students for placements, higher studies, and competitive exams.
At our Law College, internships are encouraged as a vital part of holistic legal education, ensuring students graduate not just with degrees, but with competence, confidence, and professional readiness.
Learning the law is important. Practicing it is essential.
As per guidelines issued by the Bar Council of India, internships shall be undertaken only during university vacations and shall not clash with regular college lectures or academic sessions (BCI Circular No. 5/2014 dated 11.09.2014). Further, internships are governed by Rule 25 of the Bar Council of India Rules of Legal Education, 2008 (Part IV), which prescribes the minimum duration and manner of internships for LL.B. students.
