Institutional Distinctiveness
VPM's TMC Law College is one of the several educational institutions established in Thane by the Vidya Prasarak Mandal, Thane. The college is amply and fully conscious of its duty towards two target groups- the first group is our bonafied students and the other group is the general and common masses. To be in the class of excellent centres of legal education in the country is our vision. The college focuses on the development of the bonafied students by sincere efforts to impart quality legal education. We focus on the academic growth of the students and spare no effort in this regard. Molding lawyers for the bench, bar, corporate and academia is one area distinctive to our priority and thrust. With extremely distinguished alumni as judges, lawyers and academicians to its credit, the college has completed 36 years. High Court judges are our esteemed alumni. Our college has given several judges to the courts and tribunals.
Since June 1972 till the next 30 years our college served as the only law college in the whole district of Thane with a mission to facilitate professional legal education and we continue in our mission with a few more law colleges established in the district later.
Our college believes in Value Based Education with commitment to create the best professionals. Our college has produced good number of academicians who went on to become professors and principals and some are serving currently. For common masses we undertake different legal awareness activities considering it as our social responsibility. Through proper planning and strategies, within our best resources, our college emphasizes on delivering its best to the society at large. The college has a long legacy of Legal Aid Activities since 1976. Honble Justice V R Krishna Iyer has motivated us by his lead in our legal aid programme. Recently the college has received a letter of appreciation from Supreme Court of India for legal aid work during Pan India legal awareness and out- reach programme of the National Legal Services Authority. In spite of all the odds of no grants in aid from government till 1995 and very limited government grants, less fees and no appointment of adequate number of staff since 1995, the college has contributed immensely to the bench, bar and academia. The college is conscious of the trust reposed in it and will ever strive for excellence and beyond.
