Full Time Faculty

Teaching–learning in law is the foremost objective of the College, with a clear recognition that it is engaged in shaping future members of the legal profession. In professional legal education, the role of the faculty—the teaching community—is of paramount importance. The College is deeply committed to imparting comprehensive legal knowledge, practical skills, and core professional values to aspiring lawyers.

The College firmly believes that effective legal education requires a judicious blend of full-time academic faculty and experienced legal practitioners. While full-time faculty provide a strong foundation in substantive and theoretical aspects of law, practitioners bring invaluable practical insights from the Bar and Bench. The participation of judges and practicing advocates as guest faculty serves to inspire students and enables the delivery of vital subjects and perspectives that extend beyond the prescribed syllabus.

Historically, the College functioned as a private unaided institution until it was brought under the Grants-in-Aid scheme pursuant to the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in State of Maharashtra v. M. P. Vashi (1995). Under this scheme, the Government sanctioned one post of Principal and eleven posts of full-time faculty. Of these sanctioned posts, the full-time Principal and seven faculty positions have been filled by the Government, with six appointments made in August 2024.

The Bar Council of India, as the statutory regulator of legal education, has prescribed under the Legal Education Rules, 2008 a teacher–student ratio of 1:40. In view of the College’s approved maximum intake of 720 students, a total of 19 full-time faculty positions are required to meet this regulatory standard.

To bridge this gap and ensure the effective delivery of the University curriculum, the Management has appointed two additional full-time faculty from its own resources. Further, the College engages visiting and guest faculty drawn from the legal profession, whose contributions significantly enrich the teaching–learning process. The College places on record its sincere appreciation and gratitude to these guest faculty members, who, despite their demanding professional commitments, generously devote their time and expertise to mentor and guide the students.
